Are Meghan McCain and Michelle Malkin Fighting Over Me?

“Ladies, La-hay-hay-dies,” (smooths imaginary mustache),”there’s plen-T of TC to go arou-how-hound!”mccain-michelle-malkin-war_230821594054

So, remember the big feud between Michelle Malkin and Meghan McCain a few days back?  Michelle talked some Meggie Mac smack, and Meg fired back over teh Twitter, and on her Daily Beast blog?  Well, I just caught up to the Politico Arena chat that started it all, and guess who’s smack-dab in the middle of it?

12:29 [Comment From Matthew]
Who would you say is the most insightful liberal political figure or commentator out there right now? Who is a conservative political figure of commentator who you think needs to shut up?

12:30 Fred Barbash-Moderator: That’s the last question. So sorry.

12:32 Michelle Malkin: Hmmm. Interesting question. On the right: Less Meghan McCain. On the left? Tommy Christopher is an honest lib.

Whoah! AWK-ward!

Maybe it’s the hopeless bleeding heart in me, but I see an opportunity to make some magic here.  Just as Meghan McCain seeks to be a bridge between her party’s old and new factions (and succeeds, to a large degree), perhaps I can be the bridge between Meghan and Michelle.

Everyone knows I have nothing but respect and admiration for Meg, especially for the great example she sets for women and girls everywhere.  As for Michelle, we probably agree on one thing only, which is that she does not deserve to be called a “bitch” or to be “hate-f**ked” by Playboy’s Guy Cimbalo.  It’s a sad state of affairs when our political discourse has led to the lauding of common decency.

But, since they’re both listening, let me see if we can bridge where a chasm now yawns.  Let’s join hands, the 3 of us, and think about what has happened to this country in the age of polarization, and ask ourselves if we can move past it all.  Now, close your eyes and chant with me, “Yes, we can!”

Well, I tried.

  1. Tommy, YOU DA MAN!!!!
On a manly scale of one to ten, yer an eleven, apparently in political lefty circles anyway.

I think you are the only political commentator that I have linked to, anyway.

  2. “Just as Meghan McCain seeks to be a bridge between her party’s old and new factions (and succeeds, to a large degree)…”

    1) McCain McCain does not seek to be a bridge. She seeks to be the center of attention. She’s got the emotional makeup of a 14-year-old and the brain of a turnip. Meghan is interested in Meghan. Period.

    2) If you think she’s “succeeding to a large degree” you’ve got your head buried in the sand. She has become a national joke. She has plenty of fans, like you for instance, but those fans are kind of like Meggie…not too bright.

  3. Nicely done, Tommy. I am still so damn proud of you. (snif!) 😉

    And Sekanblogger–thanks a lot!!! LOL!

  4. There seems to be a fairly common concensus forming out there on the Right that you are an “honest liberal.” Ed Morrissey, Caleb Howe, Media Lizzy, several of your conservative Twitter followers, and now Michelle Malkin. I cannot think of any other libs whom your friends on the Right praise in such a manner 🙂 Quite a compliment, sweets. Kudos!

Thanks, sekanblogger & HELLO PCL! 🙂

  5. May I go off topic?
L.A. Times is reporting that they found the guy who created the Obama as Joker poster. As was widely expected, the guy is a right wing, hateful, white-supremacist guy playing around with photoshop…

  6. While likable, Meghan McCain has the emotional fragility and thin-skin of a 14-year-old girl. Watching her speak in a round-table discussions is almost painful to watch. That’s about the worst thing I can say about her, which sure isn’t much. Michelle Malkin, on the other hand, is an opportunistic, divisive, racist lunatic who gets far more attention in the media that her pre-Ice Age mentality warrants. This is a woman who has devoted her life to attacking the president and his wife, ostensibly because they are black and from Chicago. In the process, she has spread lies and rumors about health care reform because she cannot stand the idea of handing a political victory to a black president. While Meghan McCain is sometimes guilty of naiveté and over-simplifying, her objective has never been to demonize anybody with whom she didn’t agree. Malkin is her polar opposite in that regard.

  7. “It’s a sad state of affairs when our political discourse has led to the lauding of common decency.”

    Hear, hear.

I want evidence of the mutual group hug.

    You rock, Tommy.

  8. @johnjr –

    Wow.

It’s one thing to accuse someone of being ideologically-bound, and blind to their biases. It’s another to elevate that to outright racism.

Do you really believe that Malkin wouldn’t be writing what she does if this were a liberal White president from Chicago?

And how does your accusation make you any better than Glenn Beck?

  9. “And how does your accusation make you any better than Glenn Beck?”

    @Ike,

Glenn Beck is a conservative and Johnjr a liberal. That makes Johnjr “a better person”, whose motivations are “pure”, and so is allowed to say whatever he wants…

  10. […] brings me to Michelle. In probably the least helpful endorsement ever, it turns out I’m Michelle Malkin’s favorite liberal. I’m actually very proud […]
