Before today’s press briefing, I had a chance to talk to Helen Thomas. I let her know that I gave Bill O’Reilly what for for bashing the legendary White House correspondent. Her comment?
“Bill sent me flowers, and I sent him a note thanking him for the lovely flowers.” she said.
I also asked her a question that a lot of people, including Billdo, wanted to know about. Here’s Helen:

This reporter is well passed her prime and somewhat of a national joke.
I suppose some people don’t understand when it’s time to hang it up.
What a hard ball question she asked Obama. Than again, compared to other liberal reporters it wasn’t that bad.
Nice “get”! I see that you’ve provided the Ednecks (YOUR Twitter joke) with much fodder, though. Hot Air has gotten over 500 comments out of this video, but needless to say, most of them aren’t very sympathetic toward Helen. It had apparently gotten so bad that Ed Morrissey even had to urge his readers to stop commenting on her looks (and he even stuck up for her). See, Billdo, now that’s what you call CLASS coming from the Right.

Helen Thomas has covered every president for at least my lifetime, which is considerable. She was completely shut down by Bush exactly because she is unafraid to ask whatever question she thinks people want her to ask. And he didn’t like it, so he had her barred from the room for years. Helen is probably the most respected journalist in this country, and shouldn’t be beaten up over phrasing of a question. After all, we’ve been lied to for eight years, so I’m sure her wording was a gentle poke at the rhetoric we suffered during that long national nightmare that is finally over.

Helen thomas used to be a highly respected journalist in her prime.
Recently her approach has less to do with journalism and more to do with her biase. She may have more wisdom than most people given her years in the job, but her exercising of that wisdom has developed into a bias that really has no place in journalism. I recently saw an interview with Helen where she stated that she is a liberal and she is biased and she no longer feels that she should try to hide this in her questioning.
A lot of people including myself disagree with this view for a white house correspondant. I feel this type of reporting creates inaccuracies and really belongs on those cable opinion shows like Oreilly or Mathews.
Oreilly shouldn’t be attacking Helen Thomas or anyone else – but there is nothing wrong with outing a biased reporter in such an important job.
